Es el año del poderoso clan de los Borgia, 1506. El Rey Felipe de España manda al Duque de Riveira y Fuentes a Roma. El Duque debe cerrar con el Papa un tratado de alianza y amistad. Durante su viaje, el Duque es atacado y hecho prisionero por unos bandidos bajo el mandato de Duccio. Duccio le roba al Duque sus credenciales y se marcha a Roma, donde se reunirá con los nobles romanos.
