From concert excerpts to vigorous speeches, from the Vietnam War to the ravages of the tar sands, a portrait of Neil Young, a rock monument who made his indignation the driving force of his creation.

"Thunderbird" recounts the story of an ancient legend of a temple commissioned by the Sumerian ruler Gudea and dedicated to the god Ningirsu and his avatar the Thunderbird. It was believed that the gods sent a divine vision to Gudea, a dream that inspired the building of the temple. In response to the destruction and pillage of the last major archaeological sites in the Middle East, Rebet animates this divine myth which was inscribed on some ancient terracotta pillars that were discovered in the region.

A woman tells her story. She can't sleep. She works in a sushi shop in a seaside city. We see fishing boats arrive, fish sorted and sold at market, then chopped and boxed at the factory. At her shop, live fish swim in tanks. She's tired. She tries various methods to break her insomnia, none are successful. Late one night, two weeks into her ordeal, she rides her motor scooter at top speed into a realm of discovery. Will sleep and insight be of help? BAFTA winner

This little film, which juxtaposes animated sand and scratching on 16mm film, was made during studies at the Royal College of Art. The starting point of this film was the sentence "but it's always when you're asleep that I want to talk to you", read on a wall in the underground... a phrase actually taken from a Mano Solo song.
