Su privilegiada posición le lleva a rodearse de las más altas esferas políticas y religiosas, incluyendo a su antiguo amigo Niño de Guevara, ahora convertido en el Gran Inquisidor. Aunque el profundo rechazo que el artista siente por la Inquisición pronto le llevará a enfrentarse abiertamente con él.
