Adam sobrevivirá dentro de ese infierno convirtiéndose en el "perro" de Comandante, al mismo tiempo que prestará sus servicios como payaso a los demás presos judíos. Mientras, su mujer y su hija serán enviadas a la muerte. El director Paul Schrader ('El placer de los extraños'), firma esta película, adaptación de la novela de Yoram Kaniuk, "El hombre perro" y que se interna en los resbaladizos terrenos de la historia del genocidio nazi a través de una historia llena de humor y de dolor.
