Mariana y sus dos pequeños hijos (Gabriel y Andrea) llegan a Nueva York para reunirse con Antonio (respectivamente, su esposo y padre), quien había emigrado anteriormente a Estados Unidos. Este reencuentro genera tensiones entre la pareja y Andrés anuncia a Mariana que se marcha solo a Miami para realizar un trabajo, pero que pronto se volverán a reunir allí. Mariana se queda en el pequeño apartamento de Jackson Hights (Queens) con sus dos hijos y, conforme el tiempo pasa y no consigue contactar con Antonio, va dándose cuenta de que éste les ha abandonado definitivamente.
