Stevan Jakovljević, profesor de biología y veterano de la Primera Guerra Mundial que luchó para el ejército serbio, llega a la celebración del vigésimo aniversario del fin de la guerra y la apertura de un osario en el pueblo donde solía estar estacionado con su primer compañía, la Quinta Batería de Artillería. Allí se encuentra solo con el Comandante anciano, y a través de sus flashbacks vemos el destino de la Quinta Batería que se disolvió en esa misma aldea.
