Basada en una historia de Michel Linsky, la trama gira en torno a una muchacha llamada Mascotte (Harvey), que trata de ganarse la vida posando como modelo para la colonia artística parisina. Acuciada por una extrema necesidad de dinero para financiar el internamiento de una amiga en un centro sanitario, Mascotte se subasta a sí misma para servir como modelo del artista que más puje por ella por un período de 15 días. Mascotte es "comprada" por un novelista llamado Jean (Harry Halm), que sólo quiere dar una lección a su coqueta mujer. Aunque manteniendo las distancias, Mascotte convence a Jean de hacerse pasar por su amante para que su esposa sienta celos y vuelva a caer en sus brazos. Por supuesto, las cosas no salen según lo planeado, y en poco tiempo Jean y Mascotte se enamoran.
