Una historia donde la magia es realidad y la realidad es magia, acerca del sometimiento y la represión, ubicada en un contexto similar al de muchos de América Latina, particularmente en la provincia argentina de Corrientes, donde sobreviven los viejos ritos y temores.

With clear stylistic references to the spaghetti western, the film tells a story set in the Chilean countryside in a bygone era. The script, which tries to offer a folkloric costumbrista picture through an anecdote of love and revenge, is primary and unsubstantial. In many moments the film turns out to be comic when it is supposed to be dramatic and vice versa.

The story, set at the end of the 19th century, revolves around the rivalry between two families of ancient peasant lineage, the Valladares and the evil Vilches who, out of greed and sentimental revenge, try to dispossess the true owners of their land. The Valladares defend theirs, ending the conflict with a melee between the two main rivals. There are duels, fires, chases, kidnappings, betrayals and deaths. There is also a romantic note, the costumbrista landscape, the laughable moment and the folk songs.

Primer Film de Covacevic, subtítulado “La Historia de un Hombre Común”, da luces con el nuevo cine chileno que vendrá. Protagonizada por un no actor (Luís Oliva), Morir un Poco rescata la mirada del documental de los 60’ de Sergio Bravo, Rafael Sánchez, Pedro Chaskel y Nieves Yancovic con Jorge Di Lauro, y la instala en los terrenos de ficción. una estructura simple y directa, acompaña al protagonista en recorridos a través del montaje paralelo las diferencias entre ricos y pobres. Luego de una semana normal, el filme comenzó a tener un inesperado éxito de público, el cual llenó las salas durante semanas , llevando 200 mil espectadores. Pasó por festivales internacionales, estuvo extraviada más de 30 años, Covacevic y su hijo dieron con una copia en el Festival de Cine de Leipzig, reestrenada 39 años después en la Cineteca Nacional. Su banda sonora tuvo éxito, gracias a un single de Nano Vicencio y Los Larks. primera película chilena con aplicaciones de color.
