Luisa Soler, a young and wealthy lawyer, travels to the province of Buenos Aires with her aunt Totona and there she meets a humble composer of tangos, Martín Salazar. The meeting between them creates confusion for his girlfriend and, after several moments of tension and strong arguments, Martin asks Luisa to clarify the situation with her fiancée. But when the lawyer decides to do something, it changes for both of them. Both realize that they love each other and that, beyond the different lives they lead, they will fight to be together.

La película muestra también al niño como víctima de un padre tiránico, que intenta realizar sus propios deseos a través de su hijo. Para escapar de la presión de su padre, Albéniz huyó de su casa, primero hacia América del Sur y luego a Estados Unidos. La vida personal del músico estaba marcada por tumultuosos romances.

Estos últimos son reprochados por comprarles los cereales a bajo precio, para luego revenderlos a los exportadores e industriales, obteniendo sin riesgo una ganancia desproporcionada por la mera intermediación. Por otra parte, la construcción de nuevas carreteras, que corren paralelas a las vías, alientan el trasporte de carga por camión en competencia con el ferrocarril, con el efecto de abaratar costos.
