En la década de los 80, el televangelista y fundador del PTL Club Jim Bakker (Kevin Spacey) decide llevar más lejos su programa junto a su esposa Tammy (Bernadette Peters) y crear un parque de atracciones bautizado como Heritage USA. Sin embargo, ambos estaban siendo investigados por varios actos escandalosos, entre ellos el fraude fiscal, y Bakker termina en prisión por ello y por drogar y abusar de su secretaria Jessica Hahn

Jordan Chance was wrongfully imprisoned for ten years. Upon release, he becomes a lawyer and investigates the case of a Mexican woman convicted of murder. The local police give him every reason to believe she was railroaded to ease a tense racial status quo, and they will stop at almost nothing to prevent the case from being reopened.
