Mildred Hayes, una mujer de 50 años cuya hija adolescente ha sido violada y asesinada, decide iniciar por su cuenta una guerra contra la policía de su pueblo, Ebbing, al considerar que no hacen lo suficiente para resolver el caso y que se haga justicia.
