Después de estudiar durante varios años en Francia, Selma abre su propia consulta psicoanalítica en un popular suburbio de Túnez, justo después de que tenga lugar la revolución social y política. Pese a que los comienzos son difíciles, la demanda pronto comienza a sobrepasar sus capacidades. Sin embargo, para poder lograr que su negocio siga creciendo requiere un tipo de certificación especial de la que ella carece. Mientras trata de hacer todos los trámites administrativos necesarios para cumplir su sueño, Selma se reencuentra con un pasado que creía haber dejado atrás.
