Todo comienza cuando el joven David asiste al cumpleaños de su abuelo que cumple 81 años. Cuando éste apaga las velas pide un deseo: volver a tener 18 años. Después de la fiesta sale con su nieto a dar un paseo, pero al perder el control del auto sufren un serio accidente, en el cual el abuelo Jack queda en coma y David sólo con algunos rasguños leves.
