Elisa, una solitaria y tímida bibliotecaria, se muda a vivir a un céntrico edificio, sin saber que allí se cometió recientemente el crimen de una joven universitaria. Sin entender porqué, Elisa comienza a sufrir una serie de sensaciones que poco a poco irán develando una personalidad hasta entonces desconocida, llevándola a vivir situaciones extremas que a su vez irán dando pistas sobre el asesino de la antigua inquilina, El visitante Nocturno.
