Dos emigrantes de esta república del Este intentan regresar a casa y descubren con horror que su país no aparece en los mapas de los ferrocarriles franceses. Ahí arranca el enredo cómico de esta simpática parábola sobre la Europa de las nacionalidades.

La civilización humana ha sido destruida, aunque quedan vestigios de ella. Un hombre llega a un paraje con la intención de visitar un famoso museo que ha quedado aislado en medio del mar. Los habitantes del lugar, que mantienen ciertas costumbres del pasado, se relacionan con unos extraños seres embrutecidos, que viven aislados en una especie de colonia. El interés del visitante por el museo se va transformando en una obsesión por entender las manifestaciones religiosas de los confinados.

With a brother dedicated to punk rock stardom at any cost and a drunken father who chases skirt between robotic dancing lessons from the TV, young Senka stands as much chance of nurture as the hero of Truffaut's 400 Blows. The amazing thing about Ogorodnikov's film is that it was made in Russia. Clearly, plenty of Soviet teenies share the nihilistic feelings of their Western counterparts, and the extensive footage of safety-pin chic at concerts perhaps points to a sound export instinct on the director's part. Senka's brother Kostya is under pressure from Howmuch, a very heavy rocker, to steal a synthesiser from the Community Centre, so to protect him Senka steals it himself. The story occupies little more space than the music, but the performances are splendid enough to lodge Senka's predicament in the heart.

Vadim, a part-time dump truck driver in Leningrad, picks up an extremely young woman, along with a newborn baby. Vadim is forced to spend the rest of his day with Anna, helping her untangle herself from unpleasant, dramatic, and even tragic situations – and she and she alone is to blame for all of them. The baby, which Anna stole in order to make an impression on an estranged lover, is finally returned to its parents, but the problems that the theft caused remain.
