Guy Holden, un célebre bailarín americano, está de viaje por Europa en compañía de su amigo y abogado Egbert. Camino de Inglaterra, un incidente en la aduana francesa le hace conocer a Mimi Glossop, que viaja con su tía. En Londres vuelve a tener un encuentro casual con ella. Guy queda profundamente enamorado de Mimi, sin saber que se trata de una mujer casada, en proceso de divorcio, cuyos trámites está llevando el propio Egbert. Guy, Egbert, Mimi y su tía volverán a coincidir en un hotel de la costa en el que se van a producir una serie de equívocos.
