En la cima de su carrera artística, Serge Tanneur dejó definitivamente el mundo del espectáculo para mudarse a la Isla de Ré y vivir como un ermitaño. Tres años más tarde, Gauthier Valence, un famoso actor de televisión, está planeando una producción de "El misántropo" de Molière, y quiere ofrecerle a Serge el papel principal. Serge le propone a Gauthier cinco días de ensayo para saber si quiere participar.
