"'Ajantey' is the story of a simple innocent man Ravi who falls in love with Usha not knowing that she is the very girl whose marriage he is trying to finalize with a high society guy Rudraksh. After Ravi's father's death his elder brother usurps everything giving him a couple of rooms in servants' quarter and 1 lakh rupees that his father had given as loan to Mr. Natu. Mr. Natu is a cunning man who keeps delaying Ravi. He finally promises to give him the money if Ravi can get Jhilik married to Rudraksh. Rudraksh is a man full of vices yet Ravi does his best to finalize the wedding. Ravi meets Usha aka Jhilik and falls in love with her. Ravi finds out the truth that Usha is Jhilik the day Rudrasksh goes to marry her. Usha condemns Ravi for his cowardice and that makes him defy everything and marry her. Rudraksh and his family are arrested for claiming dowry."

A landlord develops feelings for Kunda but is unable to marry her since he is married to Suryamukhi. Eventually, Kunda marries Suryamukhi's brother, who turns out to be an alcoholic.

The story is as this is a story of the tribals of Jhalakpukur whose basic living rights are taken away by the mean money lenders who lend little money to them and charged them with a huge amount of interests which they could not repay. As a result, they suffered torture and harassment. Sulata was a contractor who was different and genuinely cared for the tribals. However her employer Sundaram was an extremely greedy man who not only inflicted suffering to the tribals but also longed to marry Sulata. Sulata meets Satinath, a man who would always protect the tribals from any harm and starts liking him. Sundaram does not take this appropriately and one night when Satinath was away, he and another money lender try to kill, Raghu, the tribal leader so that the tribals are thoroughly weakened. His attempt becomes futile when coincidentally Satinath arrives and saves Raghu. Satinath and Sulata together start looking after the interests of the tribal people from then onwards.

Two hapless petty thieves find themselves embroiled in a kidnapping when they decide to break into a house on the very same night that two dim-witted kidnappers plan to abduct the child who lives there.

Manu is the princely heir to the kingdom ruled over now by Ranimaa. He likes to know what his going on, and changes his princely get-up, and dresses up as an ordinary man, and goes around the territory. He meets up with gorgeous Bijli, and both fall in love. When Bijli introduces him to her dad, he identifies himself as Badal. Then he notices that soldiers from his palace are molesting the young women from this community. After his return to the palace, he finds out that the soldiers had been acting on the orders of Kunver Pratap Singh, and he immediately puts a stop to this. This angers Pratap Singh, and he plans to avenge this humiliation, with a plan so devious that will endanger the lives of Manu, the Ranimaa, as well Bijli and the people in her community.

Badsha, a kind thief, decides to mend his ways after he finds a child deserted on the road and takes him home. Meanwhile, the child's mother undergoes a shock after losing him.

Archana (Suchitra Sen) falls in love with Sukhendu (Soumitra Chatterjee), a serious University Lecturer, much to the chargin her snobbish and interfering mother (Chhaya Devi) for whom Sukhendu is just not good enough for her daughter or their family. Archana separates from Sukhendu and stays independently completing her studies. When she finally accepts her wifely duties and returns home it is too late as Sukhendu has resigned and gone abroad.

The gloomy life of a young boy gets filled with joy when a new family moves into his neighbourhood. As the young boy sees the new girl, who becomes his new neighbour, he immediately falls in love. But things do not go easy for him as she lives with her uncle who has a very suspicious wife.

The plot revolves with Raicharan's tragic life. He is the obedient servant of local zamindar and takes care of zamindar's son whom he addresses as Khokababu. One day the little son dies in an accident in river flood and he is blamed for the same. In a delusional state, Raicharan starts believing his own infant to be his much loved khokababu and brought him up only to return him to his master.

The tragic story set in the late 1930s, just before famine struck Bengal. It tells of the marriage of a dumpy middle-aged salesman of small goods to a beautiful teenager, and how, after initial days of happiness together, a series of misfortunes strike which slowly embitter the man.

Arjun is a very lonely person. He doesn't know what life is. Every day for him is a struggle. So he becomes a criminal. Jail is a safe custody for him because food is always available in jail. So he tries to return to the place, but all his efforts gone in vain, then he travels to a place and meets a father. He is the principal of a missionary residential school. In that place Arjun meets Miss Chaterjee, a teacher. At first she doesn't like him, but shortly she started to realise Arjun's quality. Arjun is an also a very good singer, but again for his bad reputation police catches him and send him to the jail. In court some students actually support him and thus all the misunderstanding solved and the truth prevails.

Thereafter he marries Sarama and becomes a judge but he realizes his crime and those past haunts him much.

The story starts with the scene where Goutam chatterjee is escaping from jail. Goutam is a freedom fighter and political leader. When Goutam is escaping, he takes shelter in Ruchira Banerjee's house. Ruchira's father Roylachadur. R. C. Banerjea is a police officer. Goutam gets away from there. In the meantime, Ruchira leaves her house because her father forces her against her wish to get married with Subir. After that, suddenly Ruchira meets Goutam again. They become friends and they move from one place to another together. And the story continues with suspence in every turn.

Two Adivasi tribes are in conflict for the local economic rights. The daughter of the Nagi tribe's chief, Mala (Vyjayanthimala) vows to kill the son of the Ragi tribe's chief, Sanatan (Pradeep Kumar) as revenge. Trespassing the enemy territory, she is mesmerized by music of a flute (played by the musician Kalyanji Virji Shah). Coming closer, she finds out that the singer is Sanatan. They fall in love, but find it difficult to appease the enmity between the two tribes and to resist the attempts of the villain Prabir (Jeevan) to marry Mala.

The 'Quit India Movement' of 1942.

The movie revolves with the unwanted incedents happened in princly state Ratnagarh. After the murder of the king Chandrakanta, one Dr. Palit (Kamal Mitra) asked for help to one Detective Smarajit Sen (Shisir Batabyal), as a family friend. Detective Sen sent his assistant Bimal to Ratnagarh to investigate and ascertain the security of young Kumar Bahadur, new predecessors of the royal family of the estate. They observed that a mysterious lady Manjusri (Manju De) sing uncanny song in the adjacent water body near the palace. Mr Gupta (Bikash Roy), a suspicious botanist stayed in the neighbourhood also roamed in that locality. It revealed that he was deprived of real property of the royal family and took revenge by killing the members of the family. He used one deaf and dumb porter as a hired killer. Ultimately he has been killed by the detective at the end before he could commit another murder.
