Un anciano llamado Geppetto crea una marioneta de madera llamada Pinocho. El inventor desea que Pinocchio sea un niño de verdad. El Hada Azul hace realidad su deseo y da vida a la marioneta, pero conservando su cuerpo de madera. El hada asigna a Pepito Grillo como conciencia de Pinocchio, para que lo aleje de los problemas y lo aconseje en situaciones difíciles. Sin embargo, Pepito Grillo no es escuchado por Pinocchio, quien pasa por varios problemas.

An American filmmaker travels to modern day Berlin to make a film based on a real-life incident from 1942 in which 13 Jewish prisoners from a concentration camp were promised freedom if they appeared in a German propaganda film. Unfortunately, the Germans lied. The psychological process undergone by the modern filmmaker while shooting the story provides the basis of this arty and challenging film.

Drawing parallels to the work of British filmmaker Derek Jarman and staring Jarman’s actress-muse Tilda Swinton, Schlingensief’s raw and almost mythological film stands in contrast to his more offensive efforts.
