June 1982, Sicily. While Italians dream of winning the World Cup, two adolescents dream of living their love story without fear. Gianni, 17, is bullied because of his homosexuality but his life changes when he meets by accident Nino, 16, a captivating and innocent boy. The profound friendship they develop will without embarrassment turn into love, as they start working together for Nino’s father, shooting fireworks. When their bond is discovered by their families, the consequences are as violent as the times and mores are conservative. The two teenagers are separated by force but ready to challenge everything and everyone, convinced their love can defeat death.

Su hogar guarda las cicatrices del paso del tiempo y de aquellos que han crecido y que aún viven allí. Es, en resumen, la historia de cinco mujeres, de una familia, de quién se va, de quién se queda y de quién resiste.

Los vecinos del pequeño pueblo siciliano de Pietrammare viven acostumbrados al caos que conlleva “saltarse la ley”, pero están hartos. Las carreteras tienen socavones, el tráfico es insufrible, la basura se acumula en las aceras y no hay día que un vecino no pise un excremento de perro. Tampoco les falta un gran puerto... sin barcos, y una fábrica altamente contaminante. Pero parece que ha llegado la hora del cambio: en las elecciones, un nuevo alcalde ha salido victorioso y viene con la firme intención de cumplir todo su programa electoral.

Relato épico que abarca tres generaciones, desde los años 30 hasta la actualidad, usando como telón de fondo el nacimiento del fascismo (Marcha sobre Roma, 1922), la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945) y la política italiana de la postguerra. Fue seleccionada por Italia como candidata al Oscar 2010 en la categoría de película de habla no inglesa.
