More than 40 years after making "Cléo de 5 à 7," Agnes Varda invites her star, two other cast members, and her assistant directors to look back. She takes us through the film, from opening scene to the end, visiting its Paris locales, placing her aged actors in the same spots, telling stories, and listening to others' reflections on the making of the film. She and they talk about making a film on a low budget, its showing at Cannes, and trying to fix a problem in the last shot. Her assistant directors discuss casting, costumes, sets, and the ways the film changed their approaches to filmmaking.

A postman in a small mountain village finds a woman and her son both dead in the "grotte aux loups" (cave of wolves). He soon begins to realize than it's not natural death, and that someone in the village in behind their murder, while tragic events occur.

When the long awaited departure day arrives, le Petit Bougnat, a child coal merchant eager to go to summer camp, realizes that his mother forgot to register his name with the rest of the group. Desperate to join them, the young coal merchant tries to find a way to integrate himself with the other campers. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Rose (Isabelle Adjani), who refuses to join the kids and goes so far as to run away from the bus. While the coal merchant is busy avoiding authorities who want to remove him from the rest of the group, Rose continues to sulk and search for a way back home. Despite her initial doubtfulness, Rose eventually comes to see the charms of the camp, and walks away from an offer to leave.

Nana (Anna Karina) es una joven veinteañera de provincias que abandona a su marido y a su hijo para intentar iniciar una carrera como actriz en París. Sin dinero, para financiar su nueva vida comienza a trabajar en una tienda de discos en la que no gana mucho dinero. Al no poder pagar el alquiler, su casera la echa de casa, motivo por el que Nana decide ejercer la prostitución.

Cleo, una joven cantante, espera impaciente los resultados de un examen médico. Cuando una adivina que lee las cartas le revela que tiene cáncer y que puede morir, su inquietud aumenta. Tratando de ocupar su tiempo a la espera de los resultados, Cleo conoce a un joven soldado, a punto de partir para hacer el servicio militar en Argelia, al que confía su temor a la muerte.

En Nantes, Lola (Anouk Aimée), una bailarina de cabaret, espera el regreso de su novio Michel (Jacques Harden), que es el padre de su hijo y hace siete años que emigró a América con la promesa de volver cuando se hiciese rico. D'Artagnan, con la ayuda de sus amigos Athos, Porthos y Aramis y su incondicional Planchet, tendrá que defender la reputación de la reina, la española Ana de Austria, frente a las turbias intrigas del Cardenal Richelieu y sus colaboradores, Rochefort y la peligrosísima Milady de Winter.
