Desde la desaparición del emperador más malvado de Britannia, hace un año, el mundo ha disfrutado de una paz sin precedentes bajo la dirección de la Unión Federativa de Naciones. Quinto y último episodio de Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito. Aunque originalmente se planeó como una serie de cuatro capítulos, el productor Yoshitaka Kawaguchi anunció en el evento del día de estreno en Tokio que el quinto capítulo no programado titulado "Itoshiki Monotachi e" (To Beloved) ya estaba en proceso como la entrega final de la serie para un lanzamiento de otoño de 2015.

En 1999 un cataclismo ocurre en la Antártida llamado "El Segundo Impacto" como resultado de un incidente ocasionado por unos seres conocidos como "Ángeles". Gran parte de la Tierra quedó devastada por el fenómeno, aunque gradualmente se va recuperando. Años después, los "Ángeles" regresan y comienzan a atacar a la Tierra. La organización NERV revela su nuevo proyecto con miras a salvar el mundo: gigantes y bio-mecánicos robots conocidos como Evas que son unos de las pocas fuerzas sobre la Tierra capaces de enfrentar a los "Ángeles".

Universal Century 0087. The Titans, a bellicose faction among the Earth Federation Forces, grows powerful and tyrannical, even using poison gas to suppress a civil unrest. Dissident soldiers from the same military stand against them, forming a resistance group called the AEUG. Kamille Bidan, a civilian student, gets entangled in this conflict when he impulsively steals the Gundam Mark II and joins the AEUG, running away from his home space colony. Then he begins to fight along with Char Aznable, a former Zeon ace pilot who has infiltrated the Earth Sphere for reasons of his own. This is the first part of the feature trilogy derived from the anime series Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and features enhanced animation and theme songs by GACKT.

La historia está ubicada poco después de los eventos del juego Sakura Taisen 3 e introduce al personaje de Ratchet Altair, quien actúa como la nueva líder de la tropa de la flor llegada desde el extranjero, esta luego regresaría para el videojuego Sakura Taisen V. Los enemigos son unos extraños monstruos gigantes llamados Kouma, aliados con un ambicioso empresario bélico estadounidense. Se estrenó solo en cines japoneses mientras que en el resto del mundo fue lanzada en TV y video con el nombre de Sakura Wars: The Movie.
