Un ferry zozobra en las brumosas aguas de San Francisco. Los dos supervivientes, Humphrey y la atractiva artista Flaxen son rescatados por el buque Ghost. El capitán es un hombre duro y misterioso, que les explica que se dedican a la caza de focas y, con este fin, se dirigen hacia una colonia de estos animales.
