Southern Bypass: 5.49-6am
Other
Southern Bypass is a road south of Nairobi in Kenya that leads into the heart of the city; This single take shot was filmed from 5.49 am to 6 am heading in the direction of the sunrise. The motorbike rider is a boda boda, a motorcycle taxi service. Where they came from and where they are going is incidental to their state of being; they are still and the world around them moves.
EYE FALL
Director
A body of poetry about getting distracted in an intensely focussed way, about finding everything in the smallest gesture. These films mesh Structural film strategies with the elastic potential of contemporary digital imaging technologies, pointing to their own construction in order to talk about the way the moving image mediates and functions in contemporary society. The films are also very associative, drawing out connection and narrative from disparate recorded moments.
Sonzai Zone
Nix
Sonzai Zone is a speculative fiction film on intimacy and loneliness after the normalization of ambient communication media. An unlikely encounter between Yún and Souvd takes place in a near-future where social interactions are largely based on the mediation of human presence, known as ‘Sonzai-kan’. Shifting between XR games, Immersion Arcades and spatial home displays, their insidiously orchestrated relationship escalates into extreme idealization. Meanwhile, Souvd’s ex-girlfriend Ntzumi launches into undercover investigation.
Seen One
Director
The predescessor to Mark's film ‘EYE FALL’. Similar to EYE FALL, these clips mesh structural film strategies with the elastic potential of contemporary digital imaging technologies, pointing to their own construction in order to talk about the way the moving image mediates and functions in contemporary society.
