The protagonist of the film, Viktors, after losing his eyesight not only gets over depression and sense of estrangement but goes on living a full-fledged life – he forms a relationship, finds strength and motivation for mental development. Aware of his difference from the ones who can see, Viktors does not feel unworthy and loses no hope. Instead, he perceives the inconveniences, caused by the elusive or illogical attitude of the society and lawmakers, with humor, as if they were curiosities.

Letonia, finales de la década de 1920. Anna, una chica joven, guapa e instruida se enamora de un atrevido emprendedor treinta años mayor que ella. Tras el matrimonio los celos de él se multiplican y decide ocultar a Anna en mitad de un bosque, lejos de otros hombres, donde ella le da ocho hijos. La Gran Depresión les golpea con dureza y Letonia es pasto de las invasiones: primero los Soviéticos, luego los Nazis y luego los Soviéticos de nuevo. Anna es un pilar, capaz de desafiar las penurias, de criar a sus hijos, de enseñarles los secretos para sobrevivir en el bosque, pero algo en su interior va terriblemente mal.

As Latvia has been declared the most superstitious country in the EU, it is important to understand – what do we believe in? Three young filmmakers – a director, cinematographer and sound girl – question if Latvia is a lost country and if a Vadātājs has achieved enormous power by leading Latvian society into confusion. A search for a contemporary Vadātājs*, and the understanding of the origins of confusion within people in the 21st century.

Latgale region of Latvia, 30 km from the border with Russia. Despite the Stalinist repressions, taking away property and lifes of innocent people, two families already in the 4-th generation have stayed in their own land and work on it day in and day out, making almost everything they need with their own hands. Making cheese and butter, brewing beer, shearing sheep, weaving ropes from linen, making split baskets – these and other traditional crafts are part of their everyda life. Just as the Latgalian language, which is broadly used in this region, although it is not included in the school programm and can‘t be used as an official language in state and local government institutions.
