Returning from the war, a Captain of the Soviet Army falls into an abandoned well. A casual criminal wants to kill and rob him, but the Captain, doomed to die, must report about this crime even after his death in order for him not to become a missing person.

The narration is holding out the silhouette from the sketch of an artist to the symbolism of the ancient world reading small gestures. This film accommodates artist’s works by giving them a role of an oracle.
