Ambientada en un pueblo remoto de Assam, la película gira en torno a Khagen, un granjero, su esposa Numali y la hija de ambos, Kuwali. Numali se ve envuelta en un desafortunado incidente en el que es arrollada por elefantes salvajes. Khagen la lleva al hospital, pero ella termina falleciendo. La historia narra su incesante lucha para transportar el cadáver de su esposa en bicicleta hasta su casa, al no poder disponer de una ambulancia. Mientras viaja por los caminos empedrados con su hija pequeña, se encuentra con dos reporteros y, como resultado, su viaje se convierte en otra cosa muy diferente.
