Entre vasos de vino, un grupo de viejos cazadores recuerda la historia de Luciano: loco, justiciero, bastardo y sobre todo una leyenda. Italia, fines del siglo XIX. Luciano es un borracho que, como todo loco de pueblo, sacude las estructuras de su comunidad al no querer encajar en ninguna de ellas. La rebelión ante la autoridad y un amor prohibido desencadenan una tragedia. Convertido en un desafortunado criminal, Luciano es exiliado a la lejana Tierra del Fuego donde, con la ayuda de despiadados buscadores de oro, se embarca en la búsqueda de un mítico tesoro, trazando el camino de su redención. Sin embargo, en estas tierras estériles, sólo la locura y la codicia pueden triunfar.

After a serious accident Giuseppe is out of work. His son Antò dreams of being an archaeologist and thinks his father's glass eye is a sign he has superpowers. It's just the two of them now, since their beloved wife and mother Angela collapsed and died while working in the fields. Now they've lost their home, too, and have taken shelter in a tent city with other seasonal workers. Through all this, Giuseppe still summons up the strength to hug his son every night and tell him a story. He's promised Antò he will have his mother back, one day, and will do anything to keep his promise.

Soaked to the skin, Costantino sinks into the haystack like old timber left on the shore by a stormy sea. Torrential rain has just put out the fire that in a single night ravaged Assandira, a farmstay deep in the woods of Sardinia. But the rain hasn't quenched the pain, the endless remorse for the son lost to the flames, the son he was unable to save. The first to arrive are the carabinieri and the young investigating magistrate: Costantino tries to tell them what happened the previous night, to explain how it all began.
