En 1864, el poeta español Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer (1836-70), aquejado de problemas de salud, se retira al monasterio de Veruela. Lejos del ruido y de la actividad mundana de la capital, se sumerge en el paisaje del misterioso monte Moncayo. Allí descubre un mundo nuevo lleno de leyendas que convergen en un pequeño pueblo situado a las faldas del monte: Trasmoz, el Pueblo de las Brujas, el único pueblo oficialmente maldito de España.
