En circunstancias normales, un atasco en hora punta en Nueva York no provocaría una reacción en cadena capaz de destrozar la vida de dos personas. Sin embargo, en este día en concreto, un pequeño choque convertirá a dos hombres en enemigos declarados. Gavin Banek (Ben Affleck) es un abogado de altos vuelos que intenta abrirse camino entre los coches para no llegar tarde a un juicio. Doyle Gipson (Samuel L. This film is made up of three segments that share no plot but have a general thematic relationship. In the first segment, Virginia and her three children are left by her shiftless husband and she is courted by an old beau who is now divorced. In the second, a divorced woman reacts to some unexpected revelations from her aged father. In the third, a childless, middle-aged social worker is swept into an affair with a young cab driver and finds herself pregnant.
Inspired by the exploits of New York's Guardian Angels, which began as a band of streetwise young people who formed an anti-crime subway patrol and went on to gain a national reputation and units in major cities around the country, this film unites three New York City youths as leaders of a citizens' patrol tackling gangs terrorizing merchants and local citizens.
