Raffaele Somma y Pasquale Caputo, unos amigos muy cercanos, se han convertido en enemigos desde que Pasquale abrió una casa de apuestas del Totocalcio en el distrito donde se ubica la antigua taquilla del lote de Raffaele. Ahora sucede que Raffaele, el sobrino de Raffaele Somma, y María, la hija de Pasquale, se aman en secreto y que un amigo de la familia, que los vio nacer, favorece su inocente pasión.
