Historia

Mikel Gurrea is a writer-director born in San Sebastián in 1985. He graduated from Barcelona's Pompeu Fabra University and won the prestigious Obra Social “la Caixa” scholarship to study a Master of Arts at the London Film School. His short films have been selected in festivals such as Venice, San Sebastián and Montreal and his dramatic work for the stage as a playwright has opened in theatres such as London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and Madrid's Fernan-Gomez. Suro is his feature film debut.

Elena and Ivan are getting ready to enter into a new phase in their life. They are leaving the metropolis of Barcelona to settle in the Catalan countryside, where they are taking over a cork oak plantation. Not only will the business pay for their living, but they also want to exploit the plantation equitably and sustainably. But despite their ideals, Elena and Ivan soon find themselves in a crisis which will endanger not only their project, but also their relationship.

Itziar Mendizabal is a first soloist at The Royal Ballet, London. When she was a child, she asked her father if she could be a ballet dancer. He answered writing the lyrics of the famous Basque song: Txoria Txori (The bird is a bird), setting her free to do what she wanted. Using the image of the bird to portray a strong woman, TXORIA is the collaboration between a dancer, a choreographer and the filmmakers of this documentary.
