Story
En el año 1990 llega al planeta Tierra una llamada de auxilio de una misión alienígena estrellada en la superficie de Marte. Un científico viaja con su equipo a Marte para rescatar a la tripulación de la nave. La única superviviente es una mujer, que con sus ojos luminosos y su aspecto inhumano, es una vampira espacial que tiene un desaforado apetito por sangre humana.

Los habitantes del planeta Zenturia están recibiendo ondas de radio desde el planeta Tierra. El sonido que se oye es tan atractivo que deciden enviar una nave espacial a la Tierra. Cuando se bloquea en Phobos, una luna de Marte, los terrícolas reciben sus llamadas de emergencia y envían a la nave espacial Okean para recoger a los sobrevivientes zenturianos. La misión de rescate resulta muy difícil debido a los problemas técnicos y las tormentas de arena de Marte.

La película narra una batalla entre dos ambiguas potencias que luchan en el espacio. En 1962, Roger Corman compró, remontó el film e hizo dirigir algunas escenas a Francis Ford Coppola, que utilizó el seudónimo de Thomas Colchart para realizar la labor.

A Soviet scientific expedition is being prepared as the world's first mission to planet Mars. Their space ship Homeland has been built at a space station, where the expedition awaits the command to start. An American ship Typhoon experiencing mechanical problems arrives at the same space station, secretly having the same plans for the conquest of the Red Planet. Trying to stay ahead of Soviets, they start without proper preparation, and soon are again in distress. The Homeland changes course to save the crew of Typhoon. They succeed, but find that their fuel reserves are now insufficient to get to Mars. So Homeland makes an emergency landing on an asteroid "Icarus" passing near Mars, on which they are stranded. After an attempt to send a fuel supply by unmanned rocket fails, another ship Meteor is sent with a cosmonaut on a possibly suicidal mission, to save the stranded cosmonauts.

Based on Verne's book The Mysterious Island, five POWs escape from a camp in a balloon during the Civil War and crash-land on an uninhabited island in the Pacific. Trying to settle with their lives they find someone is helping them.
