Village Neighbours
Director
Singapore and its evolving village neighbours, in strings of place names spoken or sung on film, spanning seven decades of the 20th century. This found footage film is named after a similarly-titled 1966 Malay-language Cathay-Keris feature movie produced in Singapore and directed by Hussain Haniff.
Cartographer Mapping Scarscapes #1
Director
Created through direct animation in which the artist etched and scratched lines and forms on photo negatives, this spectral and poetic film touches on themes of loss and rootlessness. Imbued with expressionist energy and featuring fleeting ghostly figures and landscapes, the work is inspired by the artist’s attempt to grapple with his fading memories of past voyages across Southeast Asia.
