Inmigrante en Estados Unidos, Manuela consigue empleo como niñera para una madre que suele ausentarse por trabajo. Cuidando a la niña del hogar, la pequeña Alma, Manuela construye de a poco un vínculo afectivo con ella, que parece suplantar el que no puede tener con su propia hija. Gracias a un panóptico de webcams, la mamá de Alma intenta no perder el contacto con su hija mientras viaja, pero los dispositivos poco pueden hacer frente a la complicidad corporal entre Alma y su niñera, que a su vez tampoco puede comunicarse con su hija por culpa de husos horarios incompatibles.
