Director de cine francés, nacido en París. Escritor y crítico cinematográfico, tras pasar por el Instituto de Altos Estudios Cinematográficos (IDHEC), es asistente de Claude Sautet en Armas para el Caribe, coproducción en la que participan España, Francia e Italia, con guión de José Luis Dibildos basado en una novela de Charles Williams. Participa junto a su amigo Bertrand Tavernier en la película dirigida por Riccardo Freda, Entre las redes. El trabajo más destacable en el que participa como ayudante es ¿Arde París?, de René Clément, adaptada de la novela homónima de Dominique Lapierre y Larry Collins sobre el final de la dominación alemana de París, que es nominada a dos Oscars de Hollywood. Debuta en 1967 con el thriller protagonizado por el también director Bertrand Blier y Klaus Kinski Coplan sauve sa peau. Su gran éxito y una de sus mejores películas es El atentado (1972). Lejanamente inspirada por el asesinato de Ben Barka en Argelia, cuenta con un espectacular reparto, Jean Louis Trintignant, Michel Piccoli, Jean Seberg, Roy Scheider y música de Ennio Morricone. Cuatro años más tarde, dirige otro espectacular reparto, encabezado por Fred Astaire en la coproducción franco-italiana Un taxi malva (1977). Charlotte Rampling, Peter Ustinovy Philippe Noiret dan vida a los excéntricos habitantes de una pequeña localidad irlandesa.

Taking as a starting point this fateful date for Vian's relationship with cinema, the documentary looks back at his cinematic experiences, his appearances in several films, his friendship with director Pierre Cast and his many unrealized screenplays. From the post-war period to the dawn of the 1960s, from the cellars of Saint-Germain-des-Prés to his apartment in Place Blanche, it is about the portrait of a diverse author who loved cinema with passion.
