La ciudad de Marsella está en estado de shock. Angèle, una mujer depresiva y alcohólica de unos cincuenta años, se ha tirado de la ventana de un edificio del centro de la ciudad. Su violenta muerte provoca la vuelta de un personaje de mala fama perteneciente al pasado de la ciudad. Se trata de Romain Garraud, que acaba de salir de prisión tras 15 años encarcelado por la violación de una menor. La víctima, Isabelle, hija de Angèle, tenía 8 años cuando se cometió el delito.
