Martha es una encantadora cocinera que realiza verdaderas obras de arte en un pequeño restaurante de Hamburgo. Aún así su vida es bastante monótona. Es introvertida, casi no tiene vida social y se dedica con pasión a su trabajo. Pero su vida cambiará de repente cuando su hermana, una mujer soltera que vivía sola con su hija de ocho años, muere en un accidente. Martha se hace cargo de su sobrina Lina, que sufre mucho por la muerte de su madre. Sólo la presencia de Mario, un compañero italiano de Martha, pondrá un poco de alegría y de pasta en sus vidas. Mario deja de ser un rival para convertirse en un buen amigo. Pero un día aparece el padre de Lina, al que Martha había intentado localizar, con la intención de llevarse a su hija a Italia. Martha tendrá entonces que tomar una decisión.

En 1914 y durante un fuerte temporal, en el interior de un barco alemán una yegua da a luz a un caballito llamado Lucky. Cuando el barco llega a una ciudad minera de África, el pequeño animal es separado de su madre. Su soledad parece tener fin cuando es adoptado por Richard, un niño huérfano que trabaja en unas cuadras. Sin embargo, al estallar la guerra, el caballo vuelve a quedar abandonado a su suerte en el desierto. Allí conocerá a una joven nativa y a un antílope.

Águst Guðmundsson directed this Icelandic period drama, adapted from the short story We Must Dance by William Heinesen, and set on an island in 1913.
Pétur (Gunnar Helgason) narrates, recalling the days when mainlanders arrived for a wedding. Flirtatious Sirsa (Pálína Jónsdottir) marries Harald (Dofri Hermannsson), son of a wealthy landowner on the island.
Offshore, a ship is sinking, so the men form a rescue party, returning with the captain, the engineer, and several sailors. With a storm gathering, the engineer dies. The clergyman requests an end to the festivities as a mark of respect. Sirsa protests, but her new husband brings the celebration to a halt. The group then fragments into different activities, drunken or otherwise, and the sensual Sirsa directs her attention toward the handsome Ívar (Baldur Trausti Hreinsson).
The film's score features traditional folk music.

The western film that was filmed in Bavaria is located in the Montana Mountains. At the end of the 19th century, an Indian Boy called Tschetan meets the shepherd Alaska in the Montana Mountains. Alaska prevents him from being hanged as a cattle thief but from then on engages him as a deputy shepherd and forces him to do hard work. But when they have to fight against a powerful stock farmer together, they eventually become friends.
