Atsushi is a journalist specializing in writing about adult film actresses. He meets Hanako, who seems different to other adult film stars and soon a relationship develops. Meanwhile, Hanako’s younger sister, Asuka, arrives to stay and falls in love after a chance meeting at a club.

Rai pedals his bike and trailer about town, collecting old iron and sowing flower seeds. Because his face never seems to show emotion, everybody calls him Hotoke - meaning Buddha. His elder brother Shiba, however, is tough as nails and works the black market. Rai is building a gigantic statue of Buddha from the scrap metal he has gathered over the years. He prays the Buddha he is creating will come to life and rid the world of its cruelty.

Un reportero televisivo, que cayó en el olvido profesional tras haber sido atacado por jóvenes pandilleros (quienes lo violaron con el micrófono y grabaron toda la escena en una cámara), trata de realizar un documental acerca de la violencia juvenil y el sexo. Para ello mantiene relaciones sexuales con su propia hija y observa a su propio hijo mientras es humillado por tres compañeros de colegio. En su casa el panorama es poco alentador, con una esposa adicta a las drogas y que sufre violentos golpes por parte de su hijo. En este marco abyecto ingresa un extraño, denominado 'Q', quien se integra a la familia como un visitante e interactúa con todos provocando fuertes cambios en los individuos, como por ejemplo, la aparición del interés por la necrofilia por parte del padre (que lleva a cabo en un invernadero), o la explosión de las cualidades lactantes de la madre (que ocurre en la cocina del hogar).
