Young prisoner Jan, nicknamed Roughboy (Petr Cepek), tries to commit suicide. He was imprisoned for a fight in which he injured a functionary of the National Committee and for stealing material but actually by the blame for this crime was pinned on him by the road-builders in whose group he worked. The prison doctor knows that Jan is an emotionally deprived person who never knew his parents and spent all his childhood - except one year with foster-parents - in orphanages, homes for youth and reform schools. He arranges a five-day holiday for Jan, who wants to find his mother's grave.

There are still water spirits among us. One group lives in Prague, led by Mr. Wassermann, who is using his wife's family as a servants. All they need is their old house near the river. But the house is to be demolished. They have to stop it. And the only way is to drown Dr. Mrácek, who is responsible for the demolition. But he falls in love with Wassermann's niece Jana. He changes to fish, is mistaken for water spirit from Germany, is drowned and revived again. The other problem is the flour with ears... and so on...

Valerie, una adolescente checoslovaca que vive con su abuela, se está convirtiendo en mujer, pero esa transformación resulta secundaria a los efectos que experimenta cuando se pone un par de aretes mágicos. Ahora que ve el mundo a su alrededor bajo una luz diferente, Valerie debe soportar su despertar sexual mientras intenta discernir la realidad de la fantasía mientras se encuentra con el sacerdote lascivo Gracian, un extraño vampiro y una gente de carnaval de otro mundo.

Un cometa pasa muy cerca de la tierra, arrastrando con él una pequeña parte del norte de África y llevándose a un montón de gente. Entre ellos, Angélica, que acaba de escapar del barco de un despiadado traficante de armas, y a sus dos hermanos, que la están buscando. Luego hay un grupo de nativos que planea una rebelión contra los colonos franceses. Todos estos conflictos se vuelven secundarios cuando la gente finalmente se da cuenta de que están condenados a vivir juntos en un planeta alienígena.
