Katja Fleming has given up her job as an actress and married the business man Robert Fleming. But the cold that surrounds her in her modern, luxurious high-rise makes her lonely. Then she meets the author John Lawrence, who wants to convince her to perform in his new play.
Hans Albers plays returning war veteran Hans Richter who has trouble finding work. With nowhere else to turn, Richter gets involved with black market activities. This so disgusts Richter's son, blind ex-soldier Edwin (Paul Edwin Roth), that the boy literally disowns his father. Hans eventually mends his ways, but not before several other devastating setbacks.
In a mountain village a deranged alcoholic who routinely beats his wife and kids goes missing. Though everyone in the village is glad to see him gone, an investigation begins. Made at the end of the Nazi era and immediately shelved; not released until 1948.
