Un grupo de amigos alpinistas parten hacia la región de Svanetia, en el norte del Cáucaso, para escalar el monte Artao. Tras ser recibidos en casa de un georgiano, cuyo hijo murió tiempo atrás mientras ascendía la montaña, el grupo se dirige al campamento base.
