The main event is a UFC Welterweight Championship bout between the current champion Georges St-Pierre and #1 contender Johny Hendricks. Co-featured on the card is a light-heavyweight bout between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans and Chael Sonnen.

At UFC 158 the top welterweights in the world converged on the Bell Centre in Montreal on Saturday, March 16, 2013 and it was an unforgettable night of fights. In the main event, welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre faced his fiercest rival, Nick Diaz, in a highly anticipated showdown. Plus, another rivalry was born when "The Natural Born Killer" Carlos Condit faced 170-pound knockout artist Johny "Big Rigg" Hendricks.

The pound-for-pound king and middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva will once again take a risky weight class move upward to meet The Ultimate Fighter season one finalist Stephan Bonnar, who has won three straight bouts.

UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida is expected to take place on June 22, 2012 at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Early media reports refer to this event as UFC on FX 3 and UFC on Fuel TV 3. Other reports, accurately, refer to this event as UFC on FX 4.

UFC 139: Shogun vs. Henderson was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on November 19, 2011 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, USA. The event was the first that the UFC has hosted in San Jose, the longtime home and base arena for Strikeforce. UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez was originally expected to have his first title defense against Junior dos Santos at this event. However, on September 2, 2011, the UFC announced that fight would be moved to the inaugural UFC on Fox event. Vitor Belfort was briefly linked to a matchup with Cung Le at this event. However, Belfort was removed from the bout and replaced by Wanderlei Silva. Dana White announced that the winner of the main event between Rua and Henderson will likely be in line for a Light Heavyweight title shot.

Matthew Riddle was expected to face TJ Grant, but was forced from the bout with an injury and replaced by Charlie Brenneman. However, just days before the event Grant was forced from the card due to an unknown illness. Without proper time to find a replacement the bout was scrapped. Anthony Johnson was expected to face Nate Marquardt in the main event, but was forced from the bout with a rotator cuff injury and replaced by Rick Story. However, Nate Marquardt did not receive medical clearance the day of the weigh-ins and therefore pulled out of the main event. Charlie Brenneman, whose earlier bout with TJ Grant was removed from the card, stepped in to fight Rick Story, while the Pat Barry vs. Cheick Kongo fight was promoted to the main event. Dana White subsequently announced that Marquardt would be cut from the UFC due to the seriousness of the failed medical clearance but because of Pennsylvania health privacy laws, White could not disclose the specifics of the case

In addition, TUF 8 champion Efrain Escudero (12-0) takes on fellow undefeated lightweight Evan Dunham (9-0).
