Un despacho de abogados se pone en contacto con tres mujeres que no se conocen entre sí para comunicarles que Dolores Johnsson les ha dejado en herencia una granja en el oeste de Suecia. Una vez allí, se dan cuenta de que las cosas no son como las habían imaginado. El edificio principal es una mansión abandonada donde vive un hombre de 40 años llamado Christian que afirma no saber nada de la vida de Dolores antes de que los dos se conocieran. Él y Dolores han vividos juntos en la casa durante casi una década. Alex's high opinion of himself isn't backed up by reality as he is unemployed and having trouble with his girlfriend. When he finally gets a job with the local council/municipality of Hudiksvall his life is about to change. Suddenly Alex finds himself the leader of a local theatre group of people with learning difficulties. Through their work together, Alex comes to appreciate that we all have our own talents which can grow if given the opportunity and support. "The Importance of Tying Your Own Shoes" is based on the work of the Glada Hudik Theatre whose performances have met with success in Sweden and internationally since it was formed in 1996.

Sandra comes to a new town after being convicted of assault after a fight with her boyfriend. She moves into an apartment where her 80-year old neighbor, Lilly, becomes her friend. But Lilly’s life is based on a lie, and as their friendship grows Sandra gets to know more of Lilly’s secrets.

On November 30th (the date when King Karl XII died) there will usually be demonstrations by hyper-national and neo-Nazi groups, and also democratic counter demonstrations. The plot of "West Side Story" is transferred to the Stockholmian suburb Alby where many immigrants live. But the film is no plagiarism, in particular no so because many scenes have the intensive character of live transmission. The boy (Adam) belongs to a Nazi group whose racial attitude is foremost directed against immigrants with 'wrong' colour of hair or skin. The girl (Julia) belongs to a family of political fugitives from Peru. Adam and Julia immediately fall in great and reciprocal love, and there are highly emotional love scenes. Therefore Adam breaks with his group. But when his best friend is killed by Julia's brother, he kills the brother. In turn the couple is hunted by the police and Julia's relatives. Both Adam and Julia are finally murdered. The film takes no step toward reconciliation.

Jocke has grown up in one of Stockholm's rough suburbs. Nowadays he spends the daytime getting into trouble at school and going into Stockholm in the evenings and getting into even more trouble. After being sentenced to prison he meets Tony. After their release they begin a series of robberies.
