On October 20th, 1959, producer Giuseppe Amato is alone in a screening room, watching Federico Fellini's most famous movie. The working print is more than four-hour long. Fellini would not allow any cut, and distributor Angelo Rizzoli wants to drop the movie. It is the hardest moment in Giuseppe Amato's long career.

Herido de guerra el padre, es la abuela la que debe encargarse de ellos, y como dos niños son demasiado, el pequeño queda al cuidado de una baronesa. De modo que Lorenzo se acostumbra a la buena vida, y Enrico se curte en la pobreza. Llegará el momento en que Lorenzo deberá valerse por sí solo, y no está preparado para ello. El reencuentro con el hermano mayor puede que le ayude a superar sus limitaciones.

En una de sus salidas se entera de que Sylvia, una célebre diva del mundo del cine, llega a Roma, cree que ésta es una gran oportunidad para conseguir una gran noticia, y, en consecuencia, la perseguirá por las noches por diferentes lugares de la ciudad.
