Historia
Director de cine francés nacido en Argelia, de padre húngaro y madre judía, cuyo verdadero nombre es Arcady Egry. En 1962, tras la guerra de independencia argelina, se ve, con su familia, obligado a abandonar el país. Se traslada entonces a Francia, como la gran mayoría de los “Pieds-Noirs”, los franceses que habían vivido en Argelia desde 1830. Y, precisamente, el drama de estos europeos, que tuvieron que dejar el que consideraban “su país” ha sido la temática principal del trabajo cinematográfico de Arcady. Fue el primer cineasta en abordar directamente esta problemática y ha sido el que la ha explorado desde más enfoques y perspectivas, incluyendo, profusamente, la de los “Pieds-Noirs” judíos. En cuanto a su manejo argumental, muchos ven en su obra una clara influencia del director estadounidense Francis Ford Coppola.
