Tim Kearney (Paul Walker) es un antiguo marine, ahora encarcelado, al que un agente (Laurence Fishburne) de la DEA -Agencia antidroga norteamericana- hace una oferta: podrá obtener la libertad si se hace pasar por Bobby Z, un capo de la droga recientemente fallecido.
