Leonard Hatch escapa del hospital psiquiátrico donde se encontraba recluido y mientras huye en una camioneta robada, encontrará en el camino a Doris Mae McWithers una joven campesina a quien decide secuestrar llevándola hasta una cabaña que posee a varios kilómetros fuera del pueblo.
