Durante la ocupación de Budapest por los nazis, los judíos son perseguidos y enviados a campos de exterminio. Giorgio Perlasca es un italiano que combatió en la Guerra Civil Española a las órdenes del General Franco, del que recibió un salvoconducto de gratitud que le ha de servir de presentación en cualquier legación española del mundo. Al comprobar la manera en que son tratados los judíos, Perlasca decide ayudarles. Se presenta ante el Sr. Sanz Briz, embajador español en Hungría, y comienza a colaborar con él. A los pocos días, el embajador recibe la orden de Madrid de cerrar la Embajada y trasladarse a Suiza. Eso significaba que los judíos acogidos por la embajada española perdían la inmunidad diplomática. Para evitarlo, valiéndose de su salvoconducto, se hace pasar por cónsul español, poniendo en peligro su vida en diversas ocasiones, para salvar la de miles de judíos de todas las nacionalidades.

Al término de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, todavía hay miles de prisioneros italianos recluidos en campos de concentración en Estados Unidos. En el Hereford Internment de Texas, los prisioneros son maltratados por el coronel Gartner, que no respeta la convención de Génova. Uno de los presos escapa para denunciarlo ante la Cruz Roja. El belga Giorgio Serafini dirige este filme, en el que Roy Scheider, protagonista del ya clásico "Tiburón", interpreta al malvado oficial estadounidense.

Francesco is an entrepreneur in the building industry. His company is near to collapse if it doesn't win a deal to build a new school complex. It needs at least 60 million liras to participate to the deal, but all the banks refuse to lend the money. A corrupt bank employee introduces him to Claudio, apparently an assistant of Sergio, Francesco's old school friend. Sergio is an accountant available to lend Francesco the money he needs. Francesco wins the deal, but soon he discovers that Claudio is not what he says.

In the Roman province a group of boys accepted Sola's proposal: to rape two German tourists on holiday in Italy held captive in a shack by a junkyard. Antonio (Enrico Salimbeni) may not have been the most energetic waiter in the most popular restaurant in this unfashionable Adriatic tourist town, but that is no reason for his boss not to pay him. When he takes the wages that he is owed out of the till, not only does the owner throw him out, but he has him beaten up, to boot. Enzo (Mario Adorf), the owner of a restaurant so far off the beaten track it is widely known as Abissinia rather than being called by its true name, takes him in. The leisurely pace of everything that is done at the restaurant leaves Antonio with plenty of time to put together the story of its owner and the love of his life, and how he, too, fell from culinary glory to his present obscurity.
