(filmaffinit) Mezcla de docudrama y de reproducción minuciosa de estas dos contiendas, con el añadido de las estrategias empleadas por alemanes e ingleses por medio de mapas y también con el aliciente de presentar algunos de los buques que lucharon en cada ocasión. La película nunca se hace pesada porque se mezclan anécdotas personales con hechos reales y los actores que interpretan a los marinos tienen gran semejanza física con los protagonistas auténticos. Tras la primera derrota inglesa, el país se moviliza para construir y botar una gran fragata con la que replicar a los alemanes.
